TOWNS AND CITIES NEARBY

Gennes is the nearest small town to les Greniers (just under 2 pleasant miles along the local road beside the Loire).

Saumur is the nearest large town on the Loire (about 15 miles from Les Greniers). Parking by the river is free and is close to the centre.

Angers is the major town of the region and is near the confluence of the Maine and the Loire (about 20 miles from Les Greniers)

LOCAL CHATEAUX

Brissac (about 9 miles South West of Les Greniers) is still lived in. Guided tours are available and it is a centre for hot air ballooning.

Montreuil Bellay (about 16 miles South) is a fortified chateau in a pleasant little town and well worth a visit.

Montsoreau (about 19 miles South East) is right on the banks of the Loire the other side of Saumur.

Chinon (about 28 miles South East) is the castle from which Henry II ruled the Plantagenet empire in the middle ages.

Amboise (about 63 miles East but only 55 minutes by car if you take the A85 Autoroute) was the home of Leonardo da Vinci during his later years. This chateau (Clos Luce) houses many replicas of Leonardo's inventions.
